Fort Myers Beach is about to become one very serious sandbox. The 36th Annual American Sand Sculpting Championship returns November 19–23, 2026, bringing five days of towering sculptures, live competition and hands-on fun to the beach behind DiamondHead Beach Resort.

A Fort Myers Beach Tradition Returns
This is not a row of ordinary sandcastles. The 2026 championship is expected to bring together 29 Master and advanced amateur sculptors representing 10 states and five countries. Their tools may look simple—sand, water, shovels, trowels and brushes—but the finished pieces can be packed with movement, texture and details that seem impossible for something made on a beach.
This year’s patriotic theme celebrates America’s 250th birthday. Expect the artists to interpret American stories, places, traditions and ideas in their own styles rather than simply building matching monuments.

Watch the Sculptures Take Shape
One of the best parts of the championship is watching the art evolve. Early visitors see rough forms and giant blocks of compacted sand. Return later and faces, feathers, stonework and tiny decorative elements begin to appear. By awards day, those piles of sand have become fully realized sculptures.
Catch Quick Sand and Live Demonstrations
Quick Sand speed-sculpting shows put artists on the clock, turning the careful craft into a fast, crowd-powered contest. Professional demonstrations offer a slower look at the techniques behind the work, while scheduled hands-on lessons give visitors a chance to learn a few sculpting secrets themselves.
Bring the Family
The championship is designed for more than art experts. A dedicated children’s sand-play area, food and beverage vendors, live entertainment and more than 80 expected vendors make it easy to spend several hours at the event. The Saturday amateur competition gives everyday builders their own moment in the spotlight.
Which Day Should You Visit?
The official schedule is still marked tentative, but each day offers a slightly different experience:
- Thursday, November 19: Watch the Master competition begin, with lessons, demonstrations and Quick Sand shows throughout the day.
- Friday, November 20: Master and advanced amateur competition continues, along with lessons, demonstrations and speed sculpting.
- Saturday, November 21: See the public amateur competition, People’s Choice voting and a full day of competitive sculpting and family activities.
- Sunday, November 22: Catch final judging, the Quick Sand championship and the main awards ceremony.
- Monday, November 23: Enjoy a final, less competition-focused day to view the completed sculptures and take in art activities.

Organizers announced $8 advance admission and $10 admission at the gate, with online sales scheduled to begin October 1, 2026. Family packs and weekend packs are expected, but their prices had not been posted when this guide was updated. Purchase only through the official event site or its linked ticketing page.
Parking and Transportation
The event address is 2000 Estero Boulevard. Organizers say parking maps and instructions will be published closer to the championship, so do not rely on directions from prior years. Check the official parking page shortly before your visit, allow extra time and follow the current event signs.
What to Bring
Wear beach-friendly shoes and bring sun protection, water and a camera. November weather on Fort Myers Beach is often comfortable, but this is an outdoor event on the sand. Check the forecast and the official event channels before leaving, especially if rain or strong wind is possible.
